Photoshop - Paste Photo into a shape

OK...so you have a shape made in Photoshop. You now want to put a photo into it.

It's pretty easy.

1. Open up your photo in Photoshop
2. Select the photo (CTRL-A))
3. Copy the photo. Then close it.
4. Go to your Spartacus file.
5. Select the desired shape layer in the layers palette.
6. Hold CTRL and click on the thumbnail of the layer. You should now see a selection around the layer.
7. Go to Edit and select Paste Into.

A new layer is created and your image is now "framed into" the shape. You can now transform (CTRL-T) it to fit.

Microsoft Word - Must Read!

If you have a newer version of Microsoft Word (or Office) at home...OR...you have Office for the MAC, you might have issues when you email that document here.

Since we still have the old version of Office here (2003), we generally don't have the ability to open up documents saved in Office for MAC or Office 2007.

So...do this:

1. Select Save As...
2. Under the file name, Select "Save as type..." or something like that.
3. Select Word 97-2003 Document.

If you don't then the file you send might not open on one of the computers here.

If you have any problems, see me.

Impress your friends #1 - Keyboard Shortcuts

It's no secret that using keyboard shortcuts saves time.  Personally, I try to eliminate the movements of my mouse as much as possible. Shortcuts are most valuable in advanced applications like Photoshop and Sony Vegas Studio.

If you got to Help, you can find shortcuts there.  Here's one for Photoshop:

I found a well explained document on how Google works.

Print Queue

Just a reminder.  Before your job actually goes to the printer for printing, it goes to something called a Print Queue...or line...managed by a Print Server.  Since we have several printers shared by at least 240 of us in the Middle School, we need to have somthing manage it all.

Now, if you go to the selected printer to get your work and it's not there, it's probably due to one of the following:

  1. The printer is off
  2. Out of paper
  3. Out of ink
DO NOT PRINT IT AGAIN! THE SERVER KNOWS THE SITUATION AND WILL PRINT IT WHEN THE PROBLEM WITH THE PRINTER IS RESOLVED.

The amount of wasted paper from duplicate printing is huge. It needs to be stopped.

Logging Off

Please make sure to close all programs before logging off. Sometimes Windows can't close everything for you when you hit the log off button. If you walked away thinking it did, you're probably still logged on.

Print Preview
If you really want to save paper, use Print Preview before printing. It's available in all programs.

Laptops
Some of the laptops do not have MSLABColor added. I'll try to get to all of them today. Please make sure by going into Settings>Printers. See me if you have any problems with this.

If your password (and username) are hard to remember, I would suggest writing them to yourself in an email.
